Festive events in Somerset
The festive season has arrived. Fairy lights are twinkling in windows and Christmas songs are playing on the radio. As you plan your Christmas shopping trips, family visits, and start to decorate your home; it’s nice to get into the festive spirit. There’s plenty of festive frivolity going on in Somerset this winter. Here are a few festive events to help get you into the Christmas spirit.
Cheddar Festive Night
This Friday, Cheddar village and Lower Gorge will be transformed into a Christmas carnival. The shops and cafes will open late to welcome guests into the evening. There’ll be fireworks, Christmas choirs, candlelit cave tours, hog roasts, a Christmas market, and fun and games for all the family. Don’t forget to watch out for Santa’s Sleigh which will be touring the village and is sponsored by Majestic Designs.
Trinity Close, Burnham, Xmas Lights
Aptly named, ‘Britain’s most festive street’ by the national media; Trinity Close residents will once again array their homes with a Christmas light display to rival the Blackpool Illuminations. Last year, Trinity Close Xmas lights attracted thousands of visitors and managed to raise a record £13,329 for Burnham on Sea’s BARB Search and Rescue.
Wedmore Christmas Concert
On Saturday 9th December, The Somerset Singers will perform their amazing Christmas Concert at St. Mary’s Church in Wedmore. It is a truly magical experience for young and old. Tickets are now available at www.somersetsingers.co.uk
Dunster by candlelight
On Friday 1st December and Saturday 2nd December, the medieval village of Dunster will become a festival of merriment. Local businesses will open late to welcome visitors from near and far. The village will be lit by candles and you can enjoy a lantern procession with plenty of entertainment against the stunning backdrop of an illuminated Dunster Castle.
Santa on the West Somerset Railway
Take a festive trip through the Somerset countryside on the Santa Special and Santa Express festive carriages. From December 2nd to Christmas Eve, the train will travel between Minehead and Bishop’s Lydeard, offering passengers a mince pie and a Christmas drink while they soak up the festive atmosphere and enjoy the stunning scenery.
Winter Wonderland, Bristol
Visit Cribbs Causeway in Bristol for the ultimate shopping experience. While you’re there enjoy the festive events on offer. Have a look around Santa’s Enchanted Ice Castle and meet the Ice Queen and her Ice Fairies. Go ice skating and take a Christmas train ride around The Mall.
