1. Bath Christmas markets
Bath is a beautiful city all year round. At Christmas however, it is truly magical. Browse the numerous chalets offering handmade gifts and enjoy the festive atmosphere against the backdrop of the impressive Georgian architecture.
2. Cheddar Gorge and caves
Brave the cold and climb Jacob’s Ladder for stunning views over Cheddar Gorge and the Somerset Levels. If the weather takes a turn for the worse, head underground and explore the maze of natural cave systems which were once home to prehistoric man.
3. Ice skating at the Tropicana, Weston-super-Mare
Between the 3rd November and the 7th January, the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare will be transformed into the UK’s largest covered ice rink. Get your skates on and go for a glide before relaxing with a post-skate drink in the Icescape Igloo Bar.

6. Mendip walk
On a crisp winter morning, wrap up warm and put on your walking boots to explore the Mendip hills. For the more adventurous, a walk up Burrington Combe or Ebbor Gorge provides breath taking views over the Somerset countryside. For those who prefer an easier walk, stroll along the Strawberry Line between Cheddar and Yatton and admire the Mendips from ground level.
7. Wells cathedral
Built between 1175 and 1490, Wells cathedral is a spectacular example of English architecture at its best. Inside, the atmosphere is fittingly tranquil, offering visitors the opportunity for quiet reflection and some of the most impressive stained-glass windows ever created.
