    Gable conservatories

If you’re after an impressive conservatory style with a real wow factor, a Gable Conservatory may be the solution you’re looking for. Similar in aesthetic and shape to a Georgian style, Gable Conservatories boast the prestigious aesthetics of an opulent bygone era and can add a real sense of grandeur to your home with clean, straight lines and expansive panes of double-glazed glass.

Gable Conservatories have an almost imposing, stately grandeur, with a stylish front elevation extending right to the apex of the roof. Ideal for use all year round, they can also provide your home with additional space– without the need for a costly extension.

Engineered in our state-of-the-art factories right here in Somerset, our range of bespoke Gable Conservatories are glazed with A+14-rated sealed units, internal beading and innovative weatherproof seals. Prestigious, elegant and undeniably Georgian

    Grand Gable Conservatories

Dating back to the Georgian architectural period of the 18th and 19th centuries, modern Gable Conservatories are a contemporary take on a traditional period style. Also known as a pavilion, gable-end and gable-front conservatory, the elegant Gable Conservatory gets its name from its unique frontage – unlike other period conservatory styles, the roof doesn’t slope back down to the centre but stays upright, like the front end of a house. The upright front forms a triangular gable, which is often likened visually to a rising sun and allows an influx of natural light to flood into your living spaces. As a result of the additional height, Gable Conservatories have a grand, majestic feel to them and fit particularly well with the classic aesthetics of heritage properties.

One of the primary advantages of a Gable Conservatory is how it combines traditional aesthetics with modern conveniences such as heightened security and energy efficiency, as well as its inherent ability to create a seamless transition between your interior and exterior living spaces. Closer proximity to your garden or patio can create a more relaxing environment for you and your family to enjoy. When combined with the right set of doors, Gable Conservatories can also provide the ideal setting for both big social gatherings and smaller, more private parties – regardless of the season. In the warmer months, you’ll have the opportunity to open the doors of your conservatory and let the outside in. However, in the cooler months with your conservatory shut up tight, your home will benefit from better energy efficiency which culminates in warmer, more comfortable living spaces for you and your family. Versatile, practical and oozing bygone grandeur, a Gable Conservatory is sure to get your neighbours chattering.

The lifestyle benefits of Gable Conservatories

One of the most significant advantages of a Gable Conservatory is the addition of practical, multipurpose space to your house that can be used throughout the year, regardless of the season. Originally used as greenhouses and tearooms for Britain’s nobility, today Gable Conservatories are the perfect sociable setting for tea parties, dinner parties and summer barbeques. Additionally, they offer the ideal conditions for growing your favourite fruits, vegetables and other plants that can’t usually endure the formidable British weather.

During the winter, the expansive double-glazed panes of glass will also ensure your home is kept warm and dry without sacrificing natural light. However, much like other period-style conservatories, Gable Conservatories really do shine in the summertime. The installation of such can create a seamless transition between your interior and outdoor living spaces, depending on what door you’ve paired your Gable Conservatory with. This indoor-outdoor flow boosts the value of your home, improves its ‘kerb appeal’, and creates a wonderfully light and airy environment for summertime social gatherings.

      Different styles of Conservatories

As well as our range of Gable Conservatories, Majestic Designs also offers several other conservatory styles with both traditional and contemporary designs. These styles are available in a number of different colours and can be made entirely bespoke to your exact specifications.

      Victorian Conservatories

A Victorian Conservatory is suitable for both traditional and modern homes alike. Blending the grandeur of the Victorian era with modern conveniences such as improved energy efficiency and security, Majestic Designs engineers our Victorian Conservatories with ornate styling and a sharp-angled roof.

      Lean-To Conservatories

As the name suggests, Lean-To Conservatories are designed with a single-sloped roof and are similar in style to a classic British sunroom. A Lean-To Conservatory can be manufactured with your choice of floor-to-ceiling panes of double-glazed glass or dwarf walls.

      FAQs

      What is a Gable Conservatory?

As the name suggests, a Gable Conservatory is a square or rectangular conservatory with a gable front that is designed to maximise height, natural light and space. Unlike other period conservatories, the front of the roof doesn’t slope back to the centre but maintains its erect position – much like the end of a house. This feature is often likened visually to a rising sun and as a result Gable Conservatories are also known as Sunburst Conservatories, as well as Pavillion Conservatories, Gable-End Conservatories and Gable-Front Conservatories.

Dating back to the Georgian period of the 18th and 19th centuries, Modern Gable Conservatories are a contemporary take on a classic architectural style. With your choice of a rectangular or square shape, they provide you with plenty of versatile space ideal for furnishing and further decorating. Gable Conservatories also boast a bright and airy feel, as a result of the high ceiling and expansive ones of double-glazed glass.

What is the history of Gable Conservatories?

Conservatories were first built independently from the vast mansions and townhouses of Britain’s nobility and were used to house imported plants such as recently found citrus crops including lemons, limes, and oranges as well as other exotic flora and flora that were not native to the UK. The 17th century saw the construction of the first conservatories. One of the earliest conservatories still standing in the UK was The Glass House at Oxford University’s Botanic Gardens, which was built in 1637 using a combination of stone, slate and glass.

      The Georgian Era

Gable Conservatories can be traced back to the Georgian period and the architectural era it inspired. Also known as the Regency era, which is actually a sub-period of the Georgian era, conservatories during this time were engineered with dwarf walls and expansive panes of glass, as well as a pitched, sloping roof style for a spectacular vaulted effect. Gable Conservatories earned their name from the style of roof that became popular during this time, where rather than the front of the roof sloping back down, it maintains its tall position. As a result, Gable Conservatories as we know them today are modern versions of the original Georgian style and reminiscent of the extravagant orangeries and opulent greenhouses that were popular at the time.

      The Victorian Era

It was later during the Victorian era that Britain’s nobility started building large, opulent structures with a plethora of decorative embellishments. Traditional uses for conservatories during this period included private tea parties, midday luncheons and extravagant dinners among the many exotic plants that belonged to the host. The Chatsworth House Conservatory in Derbyshire, which was constructed between 1836 and 1841, is one of the most well-known Victorian conservatories – the engineering of which would lead to a gradual rise in the popularity of conservatories throughout the UK. The Crystal Palace, arguable the most well-known and short-lived conservatory ever built in the UK, was also built during the Victorian era. Sir Joseph Paxton created the design, and more than 900,000 square feet of glass were used in its construction.

Your Gable Conservatory will without a doubt reduce exterior noise. Every conservatory we manufacture here at Majestic Designs is engineered with double-glazed glass, internal beading and innovative waterproof seals. As a result, your Gable Conservatory will shield your home from the effects of harsh British weather as well as any external noise pollution. If you live in a busy area, you can rest assured your Gable Conservatory will be a tranquil haven.

For an extra layer of defence against noise pollution, you might also want to consider installing new windows, doors or even acoustic glass.

Does my Conservatory have to be white?

Here at Majestic Designs, white is one of the most popular colours we offer – and of course, it’s not hard to see why! White is timeless, elegant and modern. It also fits with just about any architectural era or trend, regardless of the age or style of your home.

However, if you’re after something a little different, your Gable Conservatory doesn’t have to be white. At Majestic Designs, our Gable Conservatories are made to order and completely bespoke with an array of different designs, colours and styles to choose from.

For a modern, industrial appearance, choose French Grey or even Black. White Woodgrain makes for a contemporary aesthetic, or you could choose Chartwell Green for a pop of colour. At the end of the day, the colours, design and style of your conservatory will depend on both your personal preferences and the unique aesthetics of your home.
