    Energy Efficiency

A+14 energy rated Georgian and leaded windows

All windows are rated using the WER (Window Energy Rating) scale. The scale runs from A-G, with A and above the highest performing. The WER is based on the window’s U-value, solar heat gain value, and overall insulating capacity. The quality of the glazing, frame, and installation all affect the window’s performance.

Georgian and leaded windows from Majestic Designs feature warm edge thermal spacer bars and argon gas sealed units. This helps them to achieve such high WER scores. They are BBA (British Board of Agrément) accredited for their excellent durability, energy efficient, and weather resistance.

      Further Information

      Energy-efficient Leaded and Georgian Windows

Engineered from your choice of aluminium or uPVC, Majestic Designs’ manufactures our range of bespoke windows with double glazing and innovative thermal break seals. With an A+14 energy efficiency rating on the Window Energy Rating Scale (WER) and a long life span, your property will be insulated from the elements and effects of adverse weather for decades to come.

      Bespoke Leaded and Georgian Windows

At Majestic Designs, every order we receive is unique to our customer’s specifications. Our range of Leaded and Georgian Windows are available in a variety of different styles and are often chosen to accompany traditional sash and casement windows. Your windows will be truly unique to your home, with various hardware and colours to choose from.

      uPVC Leaded and Georgian Windows

uPVC, or unplasticised polyvinyl chloride, is a durable, long-lasting building material. When engineered correctly, uPVC boasts high levels of energy efficiency and security on top of being more cost-effective than other materials.

Ideal for use in traditional and contemporary properties alike, uPVC windows can also be manufactured with a beautiful finish reminiscent of timber windows.

      Secure Leaded and Georgian Windows

If you’re a homeowner, retaining high levels of security will be at the top of your priority list. When it comes to private homes, Majestic Designs understands how important securing your property from the likes of unsavoury characters and unwelcome intruders really is.

We manufacture our range of uPVC and aluminium windows with your safety in mind. By default, our Leaded and Georgian Windows are engineered with secure multi-point locking mechanisms across our range. Made to order with innovative double-glazing technology and thermal seals, you can rest assured your Leaded and Georgian Windows will keep your property safe and secure for years to come.

The benefits of Leaded and Georgian Windows

Leaded and Georgian Windows are aesthetically timeless and can improve the ‘curb appeal’ of your property with understated elegance. Despite having roots in the traditional architecture of historic Britain, the installation of Leaded and Georgian Windows has many benefits for the modern homeowner.

Many homeowners living in traditional properties, for example, hope to retain the period features of their home such as the original windows and doors. The reality however is a poorly insulated home that isn’t protected from the effects of adverse weather, nor unwelcome intruders. Modern Leaded and Georgian Windows combine optimal energy efficiency ratings and heightened security with traditional aesthetics, meaning homeowners no longer have to compromise on modern conveniences when it comes to retaining the traditional features that make their home unique.

The history of Leaded and Georgian Windows

The term Georgian refers to the Georgian Architectural period of the 18th and 19th centuries. Rumoured to have been created as a way of avoiding a tax on window glass, Georgian Windows have become synonymous with the traditional aesthetics of a bygone era. Characterised as being traditionally rectangular or square in shape but featuring four or more smaller panes of glass held together by vertical and horizontal bars, Georgian Windows are often engineered as a traditional sash or casement window with the vertical and horizontal bars typical of the Georgian period placed on top of the glass pane.

Similar to Georgian bars, Leaded Windows have a rich heritage here in the UK. Originally, leaded windows were comprised of very small sections of glass held in place with lead cames. These days, modern Lead Windows are engineered by applying lead to the surface of a glass pane. Although purely decorative, Leaded Windows are ideal for traditional homes with other period features or projects where you might like to add a historical flourish to your property.

      FAQs

How much will Leaded and Georgian Windows cost?

The cost of installing your Leaded and Georgian Windows will depend on your own personal tastes as well as the unique specifications of your home. For an accurate quote, it’s best to contact Majestic Designs. Our leading teams of FENSA accredited and MTC registered installers can evaluate your project and give you an accurate quote.

Will my Leaded and Georgian Windows reduce exterior noise?

While the leaded and/or Georgian feature of your windows will not reduce exterior noise, the material you choose to engineer your window frames from will have an effect on any exterior noise. Manufactured from your choice of aluminium or uPVC, your Leaded and Georgian Windows will feature weatherproof seals and innovative double glazing, not only insulating your property from the elements but also from any exterior noise pollution.

If you live in an area with high amounts of road noise or foot traffic, upgrading your windows and doors can dramatically lower any exterior sound. However, for further protection you might also like to consider acoustic glass.

Do my Leaded and Georgian Windows have to be white?

There is no denying the popularity of white in the window and door industry. Elegant and timeless, the colour white suits just about any property regardless of age or aesthetic. It’s one of the most popular colours we offer here at Majestic Designs. However, contrary to popular belief, your windows do not have to be white.

At Majestic Designs, our team always strive to meet our customers’ expectations. As a result, we offer a variety of different styles and colours across our range of uPVC and aluminium windows. Chartwell Green or Irish Oak, for example, delivers a bright, bold aesthetic that oozes country charm and plenty of rural character. Other customers opting for a more contemporary finish might choose White Woodgrain or Cream, but for something distinctly modern, might choose French Grey or even Black.

At the end of the day, the colour and style you choose for your new windows will depend entirely on your own personal tastes as well as the unique specifications of your home and/or project.

What is the difference between Georgian and astragal bars?

Although Georgian and astragal bars appear similar, the two features are actually quite different. Georgian bars are set within the sealed unit of your window and are essentially sandwiched in between the layers of double glazing. This is in contrast to astragal bars, which are engineered to the window both internally and externally. Astragal bars give the effect of traditional aesthetics but are actually applied to a single piece of glazing to give the effect of multiple individual panes much like a Georgian window. Both Georgian and astragal bars provide further resistance and security from intruders, as well as giving you and your family additional privacy without compromising on natural light.

If a window is leaded, then lead will be applied to the exterior of the window in the design of your choice. This is in contrast to Georgian and astragal bars where the bars sit within the sealed unit itself.

Can I add Leaded and Georgian features to any style of window?

You can add leaded and/or Georgian features to just about any style of window, although most of our customers opt for sash windows, flush casement windows or traditional casement windows.

The team at Majestic Designs are proud to offer an A+14 rating on the WER (Window Energy Rating) scale across our range of windows. We also offer a 10-year guarantee.

      Different styles of windows

Majestic Designs offers our range of windows in a variety of different styles and colours. Whatever your personal taste, we have windows to suit both contemporary and traditional properties alike.

      Casement windows

It’s not hard to see why casement windows are an enduring, popular choice on the market for homeowners across the UK. Practical and aesthetically traditional, casement windows deliver optimal thermal retention ratings and security as well as improved airflow to your home. Casement windows are a versatile and practical style of window on the market and operate on your choice of a vertical or horizontal hinge.

      Flush casement windows

Similar to casement windows, flush casement windows sit ‘flush’ in the window frame – hence the name. More traditional in appearance than casement windows, flush casement windows can give your home an elegant flourish and are suitable in both traditional and contemporary properties alike.

Flush casement windows can be installed as traditional standalone windows or within bay and bow windows.

      Sash windows

If you’re looking to retain the historical charm of your traditional home or add an elegant flourish to your modern property, our range of sash windows may be the solution you’re looking for. Leaded and/or Georgian features are commonly added to uPVC vertical sliding sash windows, which combines classic style reminiscent of a bygone era with modern conveniences such as optimal thermal retention ratings and heightened security. As a result, sash windows are ideal for use in historically sensitive restoration projects and make a great replacement for old timber windows.

      Bay windows

Ideal for maximising space within your home and allowing an influx of natural light, a bay window can elevate your home with understated elegance reminiscent of Victorian Britain. Bay windows are traditionally square in shape and can be engineered with your choice of operating casement or fixed windows.

      Bow windows

Also known as a compass window, a bow window is an alternative to a traditional bay. Sleek and rounded in shape with a timeless quality, a bow window effortlessly complements both contemporary and traditional properties alike.

      Tilt and Turn windows

For the ultimate combination of modern and traditional, you might be considering an innovative tilt and turn window with leaded and/or Georgian features. Engineered with dual-opening operation, tilt and turn windows open two ways with a single handle, and are ideal for allowing airflow into your property while still retaining optimal levels of thermal retention and security.
