    Flush Casement Windows

Flush casement windows offer an elegant solution for both period and modern homes. Whilst they offer a level finish which is perfectly suited to more traditional properties; in recent years, flush casement windows have become a fashionable option for modern homes. A flush casement window offers all the ease and durability of a classic casement window with the added bonus of a flat, smooth finish, as the casement sits just proud of the main window frame.

At Majestic Designs, every flush casement window is designed and manufactured in our state of the art factories in Cheddar, using only materials of the highest quality. Our flush casement windows come with a government endorsed 10-year guarantee and every casement window from Majestic Designs has an energy-efficiency rating of A+14 as standard, ensuring your home stays warmer for longer.

Creating an elegant and timeless finish

    High performing and aesthetically attractive

In the 19th century, flush casement windows were made from timber and iron shaped by blacksmiths. Casement windows from this era were made from small individual panes of glass joined by lead strips, which made the windows difficult and expensive to maintain.

By the second half of the 20th century, lipped casements became the norm and this was reflected in the design of early uPVC casement windows. However, for those with period homes, a lipped casement window may not feel in keeping with the aesthetic of the property. Majestic Designs flush casement windows offer high quality design, whilst offering an eco friendly update to antique glazing which is easier and more cost effective to maintain. For older homes, which may not be as well insulated as modern builds, flush casement windows will make your home more energy efficient and could reduce your energy bills.

Not only are flush casement windows the perfect option for updating a period property, there has been an increased demand for flush casement windows in modern properties. The trend for flush casement windows is driven by a desire for clean, square lines; enhancing the overall aesthetic of any property. With a number of colour options available, you can personalise your casement windows to fit your home, whether that’s with a wood effect uPVC, or an ultra modern anthracite grey aluminium flush casement window.

Like all windows at Majestic designs, flush casement windows provide excellent levels of security, durability and energy efficiency. They are extremely low maintenance; because there is no protruding lip, they are less likely to become weathered and dirty than standard casement windows. When you want modern performance combined with classic character, this type of window is an excellent choice.

All of our flush casement windows are made at our state of the art factories in Cheddar, and our friendly team can bring samples to your home.

    Energy Efficiency

A+14 energy rated flush casement windows

All windows are rated using the WER (Window Energy Rating) scale. The scale runs from A-G, with A+ and above the highest performing. The WER is based on the window’s U-value, solar heat gain value, and overall insulating capacity. The quality of the glazing, frame, and installation all affect the window’s performance.

Flush casement windows from Majestic Designs feature warm edge thermal spacer bars and argon gas sealed units. This helps them to achieve a WER of A+14. They are BBA (British Board of Agrément) accredited for their excellent durability, energy efficient, and weather resistance.

      Further Information

      Energy Efficient Casement Windows

Majestic Designs’ flush casement windows are incredibly energy efficient. Every double glazed window is given a rating based on the Window Energy Rating (WER) scale. We’ve been given an exceptional rating of A+14 as standard on every window that manufactured in our state of the art factories, so you can benefit from a warmer and more efficient home. Using an alphabetical scale from A-G, where A is the highest performing to G which is the lowest performing, the rating is based on several different criteria, including:

      • U-value (A measure of heat transfer through the entire window – including frame and fittings)
      • Solar heat gain value (Percentage of solar heat that travels through the window)
      • Thermal efficiency (A measure of well windows maintain thermal energy)

The scale is designed to ensure you can choose the most thermally and energy-efficient window glass so you can save money on your energy bills, save money, and protect the environment after you install them.

Majestic Designs are by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) for the overall energy performance, weather resistance, and durability of each window.
With these two achievements combined, you can be sure you’re getting the very best windows for your home.

      Aluminium Flush Casement Windows

Majestic Designs’ lightweight aluminium flush casement windows are designed and manufactured using super-slimline frames, letting more natural light into your home and offering expansive views. Giving you a totally sleek, modern, and contemporary finish, the aluminium finish can transform your home.

Aluminium frames also have an exceptional life expectancy. Lasting up to 30 years, they’re durable, strong, and able to withstand the harshest of weathers with virtually no maintenance. Although aluminium is a poor insulator, aluminium frames are fitted with a ‘thermal break’ which gives you added insulation and reduces heat loss.

Aluminium is a low-cost, easily recyclable and sustainable metal making it environmentally-friendly as it can be used repeatedly without loss of strength.

      uPVC Flush Casement Windows

uPVC is the most common frame material for casement windows. The qualities and credentials of uPVC make it a highly successful material for window frames. Over the years, uPVC has developed to give your home even better energy-efficiency, security and durability.

Each double glazed pane in a uPVC flush casement window is fitted with warm edge thermal spacer bars and argon gas with air-filled gaps between the panes with reinforced and welded joints to help increase thermal performance and reduce outside noise – which affords the windows their A+14 energy rating.

      Types of Flush Casement Window

      Types

Side-hung: Casement hinges are fixed to either of the sides of the flush casement allowing the window to open a full 90º outwards. They can also be paired with a top-hung casement window.

Top-hung: The window is hinged at the top of the flush casement allowing it to open outwards. These often smaller windows can be paired with a side-hung flush casement window beneath it.

Fixed: A fixed flush casement window can be used as a purely decorative feature, perhaps to take advantage of a view or to offer more light in a darker room or corner, but can’t be opened.

      Styles

Traditional: More traditional styles of flush casement window will often feature glazing bars or a leaded finish to give windows more authentic character for older or period properties, or those looking to replicate a period finish for their modern home.
Modern: Modern flush casement windows are usually installed without any glazing bars or leaded finishes, giving them a more contemporary feel while also giving you an unobstructed view and letting more light into your home.
Georgian: For an exceptional period finish, Georgian casement windows have a distinctive style thanks to narrow glazing bars used to divide the window into six or more panes.

      Coloured Flush Casement Windows

It is a common misconception that new windows must be white. For this reason, many people avoid updating their glazing and benefiting from new windows.

Majestic Designs can offer you a whole range of hard-wearing colours to match your home’s surroundings or its architectural style. Our range of heritage colours gives you plenty of choice to match your own taste, including Chartwell Green, Irish Oak and several woodgrain-effect finishes. Even our aluminium casement windows can be powder coated for a bespoke colour finish that provides incredible resilience against all weathers and should last for over 20 years.

      FAQs

What is a flush casement window?

Flush casements are designed, as the name suggests, to sit flush within the frame, so the overall frame surface is flat and smooth. Standard casement windows will have a ‘lipped fitting’ which means the casement (the part you open) sits just proud of the main window frame. Despite these differences of style, either option will give you the same energy-efficient and secure finish.

      What are flush casement windows?

Flush casement windows are favoured for their attractive design in both modern and period homes. Not only are they the perfect option for updating antique widows, they can make your home more energy efficient, and are incredibly easy to maintain.

With the option to open up fully or just a crack, they provide a great source of easy ventilation. Flush casement windows can be used in almost every room in your home where ventilation is required – including kitchens and bathrooms.

What are the advantages of flush casement windows?

They offer incredible thermal and energy-efficiency and both uPVC and aluminium frames are virtually maintenance-free. They offer efficiency and durability in a style which suits modern and period properties.

      Are flush casement windows secure?

uPVC and aluminium flush casement windows from Majestic Designs are incredibly secure. Together with strengthened double glazing, we use high-quality multi-point locking systems in our flush casement windows. We also use stainless steel friction hinges as well as internal beading to give you complete peace of mind in the security of your home.

Which material is better for flush casement windows?

Both uPVC and aluminium are exceptional materials for your flush casement windows and both have fantastic capabilities for thermal and energy-efficiency. Both options are tough, and resilient to extreme weather conditions. Aluminium tends to be the more expensive material of the pair. But while there is no right answer as to which material is better, both have outstanding qualities and your choice could just come down to your budget and taste.
