What is the most energy efficient window?
When you are considering replacing your windows, you may be considering the colour and style, but perhaps the most important thing to consider is the energy efficiency of your windows. An energy efficient window can keep your home warmer, saving money on heating bills. They can also help to reduce outside noise and help to reduce condensation building up on the inside of your windows.
When it comes to the most energy efficient window, there are some factors to take into consideration, such as the frame material, the technology used, the way the window is fitted and possibly most importantly it’s position on the WER scale. All of these factors must be taken into account in order to find the most energy efficient window for your home.
What is the WER Scale?
Windows are rated using the WER (Window Energy Rating) scale designed by the British Fenestration Ratings Council. The scale runs alphabetically, from A—G, with the best, highest
performing windows rated A and above, and the worst, lowest performing windows rated G.
The WER scale takes into account a host of features when grading the energy rating of a window, including the glass, frame and materials. It considers factors such as the U value, the solar heat gain value (G value) and the overall air leakage of the window’s components. Most windows that home improvement companies supply are rated between A—C on this scale: achieving above an A value requires windows to be of the highest quality and deliver exceptional energy efficiency.
All of the windows manufactured at our state-of-the-art factories in Cheddar are rated A+14 for energy efficiency as standard. This makes our windows 14 points above an A grade window. If you were to put that on the alphabet, that would be the difference between an A rated window and an N rated window. You can probably see why Majestic Designs’ A+14 windows are far superior to A rated windows on the market.
Installation matters
In order to ensure that your windows are operating as energy efficiently as they should, it is important to use a reputable installer. At Majestic Designs all of our installers are fully employed by us. This means that we take full responsibility for any accreditations and awards. All of our lead installers are MTC registered and fully FENSA accredited and we offer a 10 year guarantee across our range.
We pride ourselves on ensuring that all aspects of the Majestic Designs experience is of the highest quality. From your first call with our team, to the installation of our British made windows, Majestic Designs promise quality all the way.
If you are looking to replace windows and you are not sure whether they are working to their maximum energy efficiency, there are a few things that you can look out for. If you are feeling a draught or leak coming from your windows, this may be a sign that your windows need changing as they are not working efficiently.
Which style is the most energy efficient window?
Whether you choose to have a traditional wood effect sash window, or a modern anthracite grey aluminium window, you will benefit from the utmost energy efficiency. The style of the window does not effect the energy efficiency, as every window from Majestic Designs is manufactured with the same high performance technology.
Beware of Bogus Energy Claims
At Majestic Designs, we are proud of our accolades and work hard to ensure that your windows are as energy efficient as possible. We operate with transparency and by manufacturing all of our windows in house and using our own team of installers, we can deliver the highest quality windows to our customers at a competitive price.
However, there are some in the glazing industry who don’t hold transparency in such high regard and some companies have been known to inflate their energy ratings.
Scams can take many forms. Should you suspect that a home improvement company is not telling the truth about their energy ratings, you should ask for documentation. The company should be able to provide certification proving that they have met the necessary requirements to meet the ratings that they claim to have.
If a company can’t show any supporting documentation to you it normally means that they either don’t manufacture their own products, or that they aren’t even rated. If a company does not manufacture their own products, it is impossible to guarantee the efficiency and safety of their windows, and you should be wary of this.
As both a manufacturer of windows and an installer with a fully employed team of installers, Majestic Designs will always have our certification readily on hand to give you peace of mind.
