Our Top 5 things to do this summer in Somerset
We love summer at Majestic Designs! Getting outdoors and being active is so much easier and makes everyone happier. The long days and warm evenings mean there is no shortage of things to do in Somerset. We’ve picked our favourite five activities to do over the summer months.
TREASURE TRAIL AROUND SOMERSET
If you’d like to learn something new about where you live – and keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours – why not take a guided walk, spotting treasure along the way?
Simply log on to the website, choose one of the 29 locations around Somerset, and then pay to download the full trail and instructions.
TOUR THE ROMAN BATHS BY TORCHLIGHT
As if treading the same floor tiles as the Romans did 2,000 years ago were not atmospheric enough, the Roman Baths in Bath is opening after dark during the summer months to allow visitors to explore the historic site by flickering torchlight. It gives us goose bumps just thinking about it!
Check the website for details and to book.
GO AROUND THE WORLD WITH NOAH’S ARK ZOO FARM!
Each week of the holidays at Noah’s Ark in Wraxall is themed around a different continent, from deep down under to farthest Russia. You can hand-feed a giraffe, meet and greet a Bird of Prey, or celebrate World Lion Day and join in the African Carnival on Saturday 4th August. There’s even a chance to win a Zoo Keeper Experience!
Visit the website for more information.
BRISTOL INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FIESTA
The largest event of its kind in Europe, the Fiesta – which is completely free – celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, taking place between 9th -12th August. More than 130 hot air balloons will take to the sky from Ashton Court Estate and can be seen all over the city. There’s also music, food, drink and family-friendly entertainment, and you can even arrange to take part in a balloon trip of your own.

SUMMER FESTIVAL IN A DAY – SOMERSET STYLE!
On 25th August, festival and fete will be rolled into one for a day of music, crafts, games and good times at the Somerset Rural Life Museum, which opened last summer after a major £2.4million development. The museum is part of the independent South West Heritage Trust (SWHT) and tells the story of Somerset’s rich social history, with Farmhouse Galleries exploring the themes ‘Creating’, ‘Learning’, ‘Believing’, ‘Celebrating’ and ‘Remembering’, plus sculpture and family trails outside.
Visit the SWHT website for more information.
