5 Questions to Ask Your Double Glazing Installer

Double Glazing

Majestic Designs InstallersChoosing to make any home improvement can be a time consuming and costly investment, and therefore it is vital to ensure that you are working with experts who have an in depth knowledge of their field.

When it comes to having double glazing installed, there are certain things that you will want to know before proceeding with an installer. It can be daunting to know what to ask, but armed with the knowledge, you can make sure you get the answers you need before beginning your double glazing installation.

 1. How much experience do you have of  the industry?

When employing tradespeople to undertake a job, it is important to assess how much experience they might have. Employing a window specialist is crucial to ensuring that your windows are fitted correctly and will last the test of time.

Before beginning a project such as double glazing installation, it is vital to ensure that your installer is a specialist. Window installation can be a complicated process which needs someone with in-depth knowledge to complete the job.

At Majestic Designs, we have over 18 years of experience in the industry. We pride ourselves on our rigorous standards of workmanship and a wealth of industry knowledge. Our team of window installers are FENSA and TrustMark accredited and fully employed by Majestic. Unlike self-employed installers who are paid for how quickly they complete a job, Majestic installers are fully employed by Majestic, and our installers will not leave without making sure the job is done right.

2. Can I experience my windows before buying them?

You want to be sure that the style and fit of your windows are right for your home. If you choose a specialist with links to a showroom, you will have the opportunity to experience your windows and fixings before they are installed, giving you ultimate peace of mind. Previously, windows were a utility product, and many manufacturers would focus only on building white frames. In recent years, demand has increased for a range of colours to suit a variety of styles of home.

At Majestic we are lucky that we have our own showroom with a knowledgeable customer service team on hand to help you make the right decisions before you have your windows fitted. Once you have chosen your windows, they will be installed by our dedicated team of installers. Customers can even see our windows being made in our state of the art factories in Cheddar.

3. Do you have any accreditations or guarantees?

Just like you wouldn’t visit the dentist if they didn’t have a degree in dentistry, you might want to hold off having your double glazing installed by someone who isn’t accredited. Glazing installers should be MTC accredited, a practical and theoretical accreditation which is held by installers and surveyors. This is renewed every 5 years to ensure that MTC holders are operating with to date knowledge of the industry.

When deciding on a tradesperson to fit double glazing, you should check that they are FENSA accredited. FENSA is a government-authorised scheme which monitors compliance. Each FENSA approved installer, from large national brands to small local companies, is assessed regularly to ensure that compliance is maintained.

Double glazing should be a long term investment. Therefore, you want to ensure that your windows will not need replacing in the next five years. Installers should offer a guarantee to give you peace of mind that you won’t need to replace your windows any time soon. Majestic is a FENSA registered installer, and all of our lead installers are MTC accredited. If in the unlikely event that your windows are faulty, all of our products come with a guarantee of up to 10 years – giving you peace of mind that you won’t have to pay a penny.

Flush fit Windows4. What do people say about you?

Whilst it is crucial to ask questions about accreditations and guarantees, often customer reviews will speak for themselves. Where an installer hasn’t come from the recommendation of someone you trust, there are plenty of ways to find reviews of your potential tradesperson online.

Trustmark Fairtrades offers customer reviews for exceptional tradespeople. Not only is there a score available for each trader, scores are broken down in a handy guide, so you can see how each tradesperson marks on different aspects of the job such as responsiveness and efficiency. If that isn’t enough reassurance, it is also possible to read comments from individual customers, so you can make a well informed choice.

Majestic is proud to have a score of 9.49/10 on  Trustmark Fairtrades, with thousands of satisfied customer reviews across Fairtrades and Google Reviews. You can even take a look at the testimonials page on our website for further satisfied reviews of our customers.

5. Where do you source your windows from?

Many installers buy poor quality windows from outside the EU and then install them in the UK. These products are not CE marked and as a result, their quality can’t be assured. It’s always wise to find out where your window installer sources their windows from: any product made in the EU will have a CE mark and symbol, proving that it complies with accepted safety and quality standards.

At Majestic Designs, we manufacture our own windows, and source all of our materials from within the UK, ensuring that they are of the highest quality. Our window system went through months of extensive testing to get the BFRC rating of A+14. As a company, we understand the importance of supporting British industry and are proud to be a major local employer in the Somerset region.
