Window recycling: we recycle old uPVC frames!
In a modern world where sustainability and climate change are becoming very real issues, recycling has never been more important. At Majestic Designs, we make a concerted effort to recycle all of the old uPVC frames that we replace, when we improve properties with our high quality windows.
Why do you recycle old uPVC frames?
If we didn’t recycle old uPVC frames from the properties we install products in, they would end up in a landfill site where they would create a host of environmental problems.
uPVC stands for unplasticized Poly Vinyl Chloride. As a material this does not readily degrade and would take anywhere from 500-1000 years, possibly even longer to decompose at such a site, presenting a real problem to the environment.
Sustainability
Luckily, there is a solution to deal with uPVC: recycling. uPVC can recycled up to 7 times, with a rough working lifespan of about 140 years. Recycled uPVC is reduced into tiny chips, melted down and refined to make pure PVC. This can then be used to create a range of home improvement products, such as gutters and drainage pipe, dustbins and water butts.
With nearly 400 tonnes of uPVC recycled across the UK every month, it is great to see that many businesses are steadily beginning to recycle. We’re proud to be leading the sustainability charge here at Majestic.
