How Does the Process of Buying Double Glazing Work?
You’ve decided you need new double glazing for your home. But do you know how the process of buying double glazing works? We’re here to shed some light. Here’s our step-by-step guide to how to buy double glazing.
Step 1: Make a shortlist of double glazing companies
The first step is to research the market. You’re aiming to draw up a shortlist of about three double glazing companies you like the look of. Ask friends and family for advice, check out websites, visit showrooms. For more advice on what to look for, check out How do I choose a double glazing company?
Step 2: Get quotes for double glazing
The next step is to invite your shortlisted companies to quote for your double glazing. This will involve a visit to your home so they can measure up. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for advice on what will work in your home and what won’t. They’re the experts and they should be happy to help with honest, realistic answers based on practical experience.
Once your shortlisted companies have measured up, they’ll send you a quote for the work.
Step 3: Choose your double glazing company
The next step is to choose the double glazing company you want to carry out the work. Price will always be an important consideration. But there are other things to consider too. Did you like the company? Were they pleasant to deal with? Prompt? Polite? Professional? Double glazing is an important investment in your home. It’s vital you feel comfortable with the people doing the work.
Once you’ve accepted the quote from your chosen double glazing company, they’ll schedule in the work to manufacture the windows and doors and fit them in your home. (If you choose Majestic Designs, we’ll manufacture your windows and doors in our Cheddar factory. Other companies might have their windows manufactured by a third party.) They are likely to ask for a deposit at this stage.
They’ll give you an estimated date when they expect to start fitting your windows. They’ll confirm this date nearer the time.
Step 4: Installation of your double glazing
Your windows will be installed by professional fitters. Here at Majestic Designs we employ our own installers who are MTC-registered and FENSA-accredited, which means that they are fully qualified and tested to the highest industry standards. Other double glazing companies may use outside contractors
If your windows have got curtains or blinds, you may want to remove these before your installers arrive. This will protect them from dust. It also makes your fitters’ lives a bit easier!
Our installers will get on with the job as quickly and efficiently as they can. The process can sometimes be quite noisy because replacing windows and doors involves using hammers and drills, but they’ll keep this noise to a minimum. If you’re making one anyway, cups of tea and coffee are always very welcome (as are biscuits!)
With Majestic Designs we offer a white-glove service as standard and all our trained fitters ensure they clear up after themselves and leave your home as they found it. They will also be friendly but professional at all times.
Step 5: Double glazing after-care
Your installers will talk you through anything you need to know about your windows before they leave.
We will also register your installation with FENSA, the government-authorised scheme that monitors building regulation compliance for replacement windows and doors, and set up your government-endorsed insurance-backed guarantee from TrustMark – HomePro. You’ll receive FENSA and Trustmark certificates through the post a few weeks after your installation was completed. The certificates are proof the job was done right, so you need to keep them in a safe place. If you sell your home in the future, your buyers may want to see the certificates.
If you have any questions or concerns at any time after your installation, you should always get in touch with us so we can help.
And that’s it! That’s the process of buying double glazing from start to finish and with Majestic Designs we make it as easy and straightforward as possible for you.
